CCM Alumni Spotlight: Stephen Ferguson

Stephen Ferguson is a proud alumnus of Elon University, graduating in 2011 with a degree in strategic communications. Despite Stephen's initial interest in public relations, it was his work with Catholic Campus Ministry that introduced him to his passion for teaching. As a first-year college student, Stephen served as a team leader on a Confirmation retreat for a local school. Not only did this lead to an increased involvement in Catholic Campus Ministry, including two years on the executive student leadership team, but it also provided him his first real experience as an educator and facilitator.

Hoping to transfer these skills into a lasting vocation, Stephen enrolled in the Master of Education program at the University of Notre Dame. Stephen spent the next two years as part of his Master's program serving as a fifth grade teacher in an under-resourced Catholic school in Petersburg, Virginia.

After remaining an additional year in Petersburg and receiving certification in English as a Second Language, Stephen returned to North Carolina, accepting a position at Cardinal Gibbons High School, a college preparatory, co-educational high school of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. He is currently teaching world history and world geography. Four years into what he hopes will become a lifelong career in education, Stephen is ever mindful of the four equally fulfilling, memorable, and formational years he spent as a dedicated member of Catholic Campus Ministry at Elon.
