Pope Francis has said, “The first step in helping the journey of faith is listening.” Thank you for sharing your thoughts with Pope Francis!

Everyone in eastern North Carolina (including everyone at Elon) is invited to provide their thoughts regarding the mission of the Catholic Church, as together we respond to the pope’s call to Synod.

While the term "synod" is not a familiar one to most Catholics, it is rooted in Greek, meaning "to walk with" or "journey together." Throughout our history as Catholics, synods have been convened to walk with one another in the Holy Spirit, to listen and discern how the Church is being called in communion, to respond in faith and to participate in the work of the Gospel and the mission that Our Lord has entrusted to us as the People of God.

Pope Francis has called for a two-year process of preparation for the 2023 XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will take place in Rome in 2023. For us, that means everyone here at Elon, including those no longer affiliated with the Church, those from other faiths, or no particular faith, are invited to provide their thoughts regarding Communion, Participation and Mission in the Catholic Church.
