Remembering Pope Francis

Posted on April 21, 2025
Today, April 21, 2025, we join the universal Church in mourning the passing of our Holy Father Pope Francis. Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced his death this Easter Monday morning, and shared, "His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God."
- Catholic Campus Ministry will celebrate a memorial Mass for Pope Francis on Tuesday, April 22. Please join us at 4:30 pm in the Numen Lumen Pavilion to honor the life and legacy of Pope Francis. All are welcome.
- We have set up a Book of Gratitude for the life of Pope Francis. If you have any message, memory, or prayer for/about Pope Francis that you wish to share, please do so here!
- CCM is still giving out free trial subscriptions to Hallow - the #1 prayer app. They have created a guided prayer series to help you remember and reflect on the life of Pope Francis.
- The Sacred Space in the Numen Lumen Pavilion will be open throughout the week for community members who wish to light a candle to remember Pope Francis. Chaplains and Catholic Life staff are available upon request at the front desk for those seeking spiritual support or connection during this time.
- Elon University will toll the bells in the White Bell Tower near Rhodes Stadium at 5:00 pm on Monday, April 21st - 88 times in honor of the passing of Pope Francis. We invite you to pray for him during this time.
