CCM Alumni Spotlight: Brandon Marshall - Class of 2012

Although I can count the number of times I've visited Elon on one hand since I've graduated, the values Elon and Catholic Campus Ministry have instilled within me remain strong. I graduated on a hot, sunny Saturday in May with a Bachelor's degree in Communications. After graduating, I took a job as an associate producer for WFSB-TV in Hartford, CT. A few years later, I accepted a reporter job in Scottsbluff, NE. I knew no one in Nebraska and literally hopped off a plane and went to a car dealership. I soon had my first piece of deer jerky and drove away only with two suitcases in the back of my car.

As a broadcast major, one frequently moves where the job presents itself. My faith in God has taught me to trust in Him whenever I feel alone or lost. I can say I felt uneasy accepting my first reporter job in what seemed like the middle of the country. Ironically, I did meet a local college professor who graduated Elon so I have to say that helped put me at ease. I'm currently a reporter in Waco, TX where Baylor University and the HGTV show Fixer Upper is the talk of the city. Of course, I've also caught up with more Elon alumni living in the Dallas and Austin area.

While at Elon, CCM was my home away from home during the latter part of my undergraduate years. My only regret is not having volunteered my time sooner. I will never forget lectoring during Mass or taking a Spring Break trip to Jamaica my sophomore year. CCM helped me to grow as a person, spiritually and mentally. As I move forward in my career, I find myself continuing to ask God for guidance and to allow me to meet the right people along the way, even if that means Elon people!
