Writing Center

Elon University’s Writing Center is a place where student writers can receive peer assistance with any writing task from one of our trained undergraduate writing consultants. Our consultants represent sixteen fields of study and have trained for their roles as peer writing consults. Consultants are happy to work with writers at any stage of the writing process, from choosing a topic or brainstorming ideas, to planning, drafting, revising, or editing a draft.

In addition to the one-on-one consulting that takes place in the Center, we encourage use of the Center’s IM account (screen name elonwc) for students who have questions about formatting, punctuation, grammar, or other writing-related issues that can be answered quickly. The Writing Center website (org.elon.edu/writingcenter) is another valuable resource students can use for information on a variety of topics such as writing in specific academic fields, writing specific types of essays, and drafting strong written arguments.

Other ways faculty can support the Center:

  • Include Writing Center information on course policies, syllabi, and assignment descriptions.
  • Request a presentation on the Center and its services.
  • Request consultants to assist with in-class writing workshop sessions.
  • Request a tour of the Writing Center for your class(es).
  • Invite your students to visit the Writing Center.
  • Visit the Center yourself. Ask questions. Introduce yourself. Offer suggestions. We want to hear from you.
