Research endeavors are valuable examples of engaged learning because they involve active participation by both the student and faculty mentor. S.O.U.R.C.E. is a venue directed at sharing basic knowledge, ideas and best practices pertaining to conducting undergraduate research.

The goals for this workshop/symposium are to provide a venue for open discussion leading to:
- a deeper understanding of the benefits of undergraduate
research;
- a better definition and elucidation of the mentor-student
relationship;
- a sharing of ideas and best practices with colleagues and
experts that may facilitate meaningful research experiences;
- a clearer vision of the optimum place for undergraduate
research in comprehensive curricula;
- the delineation of realistic goals and expectations of both mentor and student.
