Philanthropy
St. Jude is a Children's Research Hospital located in Memphis, TN, and is America's 3rd largest healthcare charity. All patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay.
Delta Delta Delta began a partnership with St. Jude in November 1999; and since our partnership began, we have raised almost $3 million nationally for the hospital. In September 2002, Tri-Delta Executives agreed to a four-year, $1 million endowment for the hospital’s Teen Room, which was completed in January of 2005. The Teen Room provides a safe haven for patients to get away from parents, nurses and doctors and to be with kids their own age. It is equipped with the Internet, video games, stereos, and board games. It is a great place for teenagers to just hang out and be a teen.
Tri-Delta has now taken on their new goal of raising funds to name the Patient Care Floor in the new Chili’s Care Center. In July 2006, this commitment was announced at Tri-Delta’s 52nd annual convention in Hollywood, California. Tri-Delta has pledged to raise $7.5 million over the next five to seven years.
The Epsilon Delta Chapter of Elon University hosts the event D-Hop: an annual all-you-can eat pancake feast. This fall semester we held the event on a Thursday night from 11pm to 3am. We make pancakes throughout the event for anyone in the community to attend at the cost of $5 per-head. During D-Hop this fall, we raised $1,800.
In the spring, we have a Letter Writing Campaign called Sincerely Yours. Last year, we were fortunate enough to have a family come visit Elon whose child had been treated at St. Jude. This spring we will also be holding a new event that is to be announced. Last year we raised $10,000 during our Letter Writing Campaign.
