Student Profile:

Junior and senior Elementary Education majors.

Innovation:

Elementary Education Majors adopt a "priority school" and the school adopts the class. Through this partnership teacher candidates, with input from administration and faculty, identify a need, design a project, and implement that project during the semester. These projects have included painting murals, working with a fall festival to get parents involved in the school, after-school book clubs, and "back pack" math games for children to take home and play with their families.

Comments:

The first semester we implemented this project we had no funds. Teacher Candidates raised or donated all of the money/materials themselves. During the second semester a Project Pericles grant was awarded. This will make our work much easier. Future funding would be helpful and we intend to find additional sources.
