Student Profile:

Typically 2nd and 3rd year students preparing to be teachers.

Innovation:

Educational psychology students write case studies about a younger learner's cognitive development, learning strategies, and academic motivation.

Comments:

Students come to education courses with pre-existing beliefs about the nature of knowledge and learning. These beliefs can be extremely resistant to change. The case studies help students understand how the abstract concepts covered in class are related to the actual learning processes of a real learner. Through in-depth analysis and reflection, students often achieve new insight about themselves as learners and future teachers, as well.
