Recycling
Elon University has a recycling program for recoverable materials such as: paper, cardboard, plastic, glass jars and bottles, newspapers, and aluminum cans. To a lesser degree, automotive batteries, fluorescent bulbs, motor oil, tires and shipping pallets are also recycled. In 2005, Elon recycled more than 216,000 pounds of white paper/cardboard, up 45% over prior year, and over 28,300 pounds of other recyclable materials, up 26% over prior year.
Recyclable materials should be deposited in appropriate containers throughout the campus and are picked up by members of the Environmental Services staff. White paper and cardboard are taken to a local vendor in Burlington while the other common recyclables are taken to Greensboro for separation and further processing. Recycling containers are located in residence halls, classrooms and offices.
If you have any questions or comments about recycling, contact Dave Worden, Manager, Environmental Services at x5500.
