A Day with the Phoenix

Stony Brook Football Game
Boys & Girls Club of Burlington
- Upon arrival, the group of almost 30 kids was taken into Alumni Gym to observe a few minutes of the women's basketball team's practice.
- From Alumni Gym, the tour proceeded to the student-athlete weight room where several displays of weight were set up to show how strong work ethics had so far benefited the players on the football team. The highest bench press, squat and power clean maxes were displayed, as well as the lowest of these lifts to show the wide range of strength on the team. Each child on the tour was also given the chance to try and match the distance of the longest broad jump by a football player.
- From there, the group was led across campus to the Hunt and Tucker practice fields where the kids were able to do various routine practice techniques used by the Phoenix football team, including pushing the practice sled.
- The tour reached its final leg on the game field as the team was warming up for the game. The group was given a section of the sideline to stand on and watch the players go through their drills. As if that weren't enough, the kids were also shown on the new jumbo-tron screen while on the field and also during the 1st quarter of the game.
- Although an autograph session was planned for after the game, the cold weather proved difficult for many of the kids, and a trip to a spring practice was planned in lieu of the autograph session.
