Our class is working with a partner locally, the Burlington Housing Authority in Burlington N.C., and a partner internationally, the Comprehensive Rural Health Project in Jamkhed, India.

The Comprehensive Rural Health Project (CRHP) is dedicated to the traditionally desadvantaged Indian rural poor and addresses the underlying social and economic factors including inequalities of gender and caste, and women and children's wrights. The CRHP villiage participartory model demonstrates unparalleled success reaching 1.25 million people in 130 villages who benefit from significant improvements in health, social and economic well-being. Environmental programs instituted safe water, check dames, tree planting and a model farm. Social programs such as Women's Clubs foster women's rights, health advocacy and microeconomic schemes. CRHP has eliminated malnutrition, local endemic diseases, reduces chronic conditions and provides reproductive health and comprehensive family care.

The Burlington Housing Authority (BHA) is an organization dedicated to providing affordable housing for people in Burlington, N.C. Besides housing, BHA offers a wide range of programs and services, from financial planning to afterschool and summer programs. BHA owns, manages and maintains seven communities (five multi-family and two elderly) throughout the city of Burlington.

SOSVA TRAINING AND PROMOTION INSTITUTE (STAPI) EV! ELON VOLUNTEERS

Periclean Scholars partnered with STAPI as part of our conference on Corporate Social Responsibility. SOSVA Training and Promotion Institute (STAPI) is an institution promoted by the Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies (SOSVA). This institution was formed with a vision to strengthen the voluntary sector. Its mission is to “To promote the establishment and expansion of voluntary organisations and to build their capacity to enable them to play a more sustainable and effective role in all sectors of socio-economic development in the service of the community particularly of the under-privileged.”

EV! is partnering with Periclean Scholars this spring in our 2nd Annual Periclean 5K fundraising run. All the profits raised from the entry fee will be split between the two organizations.

EV! will also help in sustainability efforts with BHA for the future.
