Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed, national director of the Islamic Society of North America’s Office of interfaith and Community Alliances in Washington, D.C., will deliver the address. He is the first director of relationships and understanding between Muslim Americans, government agencies and Congressional representatives.

Leaders for the Twenty-First Century: A Celebration of Accomplishments at 5 p.m., McCrary Theatre

Graduating honors, North Carolina Teaching, Isabella Cannon Leadership, Business, Science and Journalism and Communications Fellows, Social Science scholars and Arts and Humanities Scholars will be recognized in a ceremony that showcases their talents and accomplishments.

Kerrii Anderson, a 1979 alumna who was recently named chief executive officer and president of Wendy’s International, Inc., will deliver the commencement address. She joined Wendy’s in Sept. 2000 as executive vice president and chief financial officer and was appointed to the company’s board of directors in November 2000. She managed key areas of the corporation including: Strategic planning, human resources, supply chain and information technology.
