:: Honors class prepares for screening of film project
At 6 p.m. on Monday, the sophomore honors seminar class [The Working Class] will present their photo documentary in the Isabella Cannon Room in the Center for the Performing Arts. Members of the class spent the past few months researching the poor and interacting with local people who are less fortunate to get an idea of the daily struggle that many citizens face in the United States. At 5:30 p.m. an exhibition will showcase the students’ photography.

The film is a slideshow of images taken by members of the class of the local poor in Alamance County. Class members went to places such as Allied Churches homeless shelter, Burlington Housing Authority and other establishments throughout Alamance County to get the story directly from the workers

“A lot of people complain about education at Elon happening inside the bubble, but this class forced us to burst that bubble,” said sophomore Erin Barnett.

The class was team taught by Sharon Spray, associate professor of political science and Ken Hassell, associate professor of Art. The dual teaching aspect of the class allowed the students to learn documentary photography as well as traditional research. Refreshments will be provided before the screening.
