Spiderman 3 [May 4]: Never has a franchise with such an awful cast been so successful and entertaining. The stunning sequences of web-slinging and intense action are enough to make the audience excuse Tobey Maguire’s squeaky, aggravating performance as the afflicted arachnid photographer. This time around Topher Grace and Bryce Dallas-Howard bring two fresh faces to the cast for what looks like the best Spiderman yet. The best part is that it comes out tomorrow.

Knocked Up [June 1]: “Knocked Up,” the new comedy from the director of “The 40 Year Old Virgin” has all the makings of a great date movie. It promises a laugh-out-loud look at parenting and marriage. A romance blossoms as two very different people discover what they have in common as come of age together. The movie stars “The 40 Year Old Virgin” alums Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd, along with “Grey’s Anatomy” eye candy Katherine Heigl. This could be the season’s sleeper hit.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer [June 15]: It has a stupid title, but an

awesome trailer. After a less-than-fantastic debut two summers ago, the franchise is back with more action, more humor and, hopefully, more Jessica Alba. Now the crime-fighting quartet faces the Silver Surfer, who precedes the arrival of a planet-devouring being called Galactus. It sounds bad on paper, but onscreen it looks like the perfect popcorn flick audiences expect during the summer

The Simpsons Movie [July 27]: This had better be good. The much-hyped movie version of the cartoon comedy series is shrouded in secrecy. No one knows the plot and the teaser trailers have are

deliberately vague. But hopefully they wouldn’t even bother to make this movie unless it was going to be awesome.

The Brothers Solomon [September 7]: This film was written by Will Forte of “Saturday Night Live,” directed by Bob Odenkirk of “Mr. Show” and stars Will Arnett of “Arrested Development” [along with Forte and Odenkirk]. Forte and Arnett are brothers whose father slips into a coma. The father’s wish is to have a grandchild, so the two brothers set out to get him just that. Unfortunately, their poor social skills and lack of experience with women puts most of the odds against them.

Waitress [May 2]: This indie dramedy earned a lot of praise at the Sundance Film Festival. The film tells the story of a southern waitress trapped in a bad marriage and a life of poverty. Her life is changed when she gets pregnant and falls for her handsome new doctor. “Waitress” stars Keri Russell and Cheryl Hines.

Shrek the Third [May 18]: In part three of the popular animated fantasy series, Shrek is named the heir to the kingdom of Far Far Away when King Harold falls ill. Shrek doesn’t want to give up his life in the swamp so he goes on a quest to find a new king. Justin Timberlake, John Krasinski and Amy Sedaris join the cast as Lancelot, King Arthur and Cinderella.

Mr. Brooks [June 1]: This psychological thriller is a nice alternative to the summer’s blockbuster sequels. The film revolves around a successful businessman and dedicated family man who leads a secret double life as a serial killer, blaming the murders on his devious alter ego. Kevin Costner stars in the title role, Demi Moore plays the detective in charge of the case and Dane Cook has his first dramatic role as a photographer who witnesses one of the murders.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix [July 13]: In the fifth installment of the series, the Ministry of Magic takes control of Hogwarts after scoffing at Harry and Dumbledore’s warning of Voldemort’s return. Harry then forms a secret organization dedicated to fighting the dark wizard as the Ministry’s authoritarian ways throw the school into chaos. This film should maintain the darker feel of the previous two films and it boasts the talent of stars like Helena Bonham Carter, Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman.

The Bourne Ultimatum [August 3]: Matt Damon and Julia Stiles re-team with director Paul Greengrass for the third and final film in this enticing and intelligent series. In the action-packed film, Bourne continues to piece together his lost identity while being pursued by a new team of government assassins. David Strathairn joins the cast as the head of the team chasing Bourne.
