:: First ever E-Lawn music festival set for Saturday
This Saturday, get ready to ROCK! WSOE 89.3 is hosting the E-Lawn festival on May 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. on the Octagon Terrace. One stage will feature bands such as: Obsidia [a catchy pop rock band], Spotlight Effect [an energetic, progressive hip-hop group], Max Cramer [a talented finger-style, acoustic guitar player], Dylan Gilbert [an experimental, indie-folk musician out of Charlotte] and Jonas Sees In Color [a pop punk group from Greensboro].
There will also be prizes and contests. Some of the prizes include music prize packs, pizza and WSOE merchandise. Two featured contests will involve trivia questions and a pie-eating contest. While the festival is free, WSOE is encouraging festival attendees to give donations that will go to the Save The Music Foundation, which was set up by VH1 to keep music alive in public schools. The money helps buy instruments for kids and helps pay the salaries of music teachers. Along with donations, proceeds from the sale of new WSOE key-chains, water bottles and T-shirts will go to the cause. The station’s general manager, Nikki Wasikowski, said, “we wanted to schedule an event that we thought was fun and relieving during one of the most stressful times of the year, give local bands exposure, and raise awareness of the current state of music education in schools.” Reporter: Ryan Sweeney - 05/03/07
