:: University Grill makes diners feel at home
![]() University Grill is a brand new restaurant that is sure to hit the spot with diners. The breakfast menu includes different breakfast plates, omelets, sandwiches and southern sides, such as grits and homemade biscuits. Some of the items on the breakfast menu include “The Steak in the Morning,” a six-ounce steak with any kind of eggs or “The Country Fried” which includes fried chicken with biscuits. University Grill is a great place to have lunch. The dinner and lunch menus are the same, but they offer both lighter and heavier dishes. The menu includes appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, stir-fry dishes, fish, steaks, chicken dishes, pasta and “veggies.” These veggies are southern dinner sides, such as macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and different casseroles. For my lunch I split a side salad, a veggie plate and a pasta dish with one of my friends. The salad was typical of other restaurants, but the homemade ranch dressing was pretty good. The veggie plate consisted of sweet peas, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. The pasta was spaghetti with olive oil, feta cheese and garlic. The meal was good. It felt like a home cooked meal, which is really comforting and enjoyable to someone who isn’t close to home. Everything was inexpensive, totaling $7. It was definitely better than fast food, and it was a nice change from the usual restaurants in Burlington. In a couple weeks, an ice cream parlor will open next to the University Grill. The hope is that this establishment will serve as a nice complement to the restaurant. It is always good to have a new restaurant in the area. University Grill offers a good amount of southern food for people who are missing home. The meal portions aren’t huge, but they were of a good size. With places like Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans and IHOP always crowded for weekend brunch or breakfast, University Grill is a good choice. It deserves 3.5 out of 5 stars.
