When: From 3:40 to 4:15 p.m. Where: Whitley Auditorium, department awards follow around campus The event will begin at 3:40 p.m. with a reception for award winners on Long Terrace. The ceremony will then proceed to Whitley Auditorium at 4:15 p.m., with the presentation of 12 different all-campus ODK awards. The ODK awards to be presented include the Perito Award, which acknowledges a student who exemplifies a “love of wisdom,” and the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, given to a student who demonstrates fine spiritual qualities in daily life and peer relationships. ODK honors also include endowed scholarships, like the Ella Brunk Smith Award. Departmental awards will follow directly after the ODK honors, at 5 p.m. in various venues around campus. The School of Education awards will be given out in Mooney 111. Recognitions include Outstanding Majors in athletic training, exercise/sport science, physical education and leisure & sport management. In addition to these honors, the Arnold Strauch Award, Janie P. Brown Emerging Professional Award and Leisure and Sport Management Endowed Scholarship will be presented. Love School of Business awards will be presented in the Koury Business School LaRose Digital Theater. These honors include business concentration awards in marketing, management, finance and MIS, as well as various excellence and achievement awards in accounting and economics. Alpha Kappa Psi, the business fraternity, provides two scholarship awards, one in accounting and one in business. The School of Communications ceremony will be held in McEwen Studio B. Awards will recognize outstanding seniors in each concentration: broadcast communications, cinema, corporate communications and journalism. Scholarships, such as the Priestley, Times-News, James F. Hurley and D’Angelo Family Scholarships, will also be presented. The Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, will present honors later in the semester at the Elon College Faculty and Student Excellence Awards ceremony at 4:10 p.m. on May 3 in McCrary Theater. Elon College recognitions range across a broad variety of majors, including human services, music, computer science, biology, chemistry, engineering, English, geography and international studies. ODK, featured in today’s ceremony, is a national leadership honor society for students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni. The Elon chapter of ODK, established in 1977, honors juniors and seniors who have displayed particularly noteworthy leadership skills as well as academic excellence. The Elon ODK Circle is based on the core values of academics, athletics, community service, social/religious activities, campus government, creative and performing arts, multicultural experiments, journalism, speech and mass medium. ODK accepts applications for membership each fall. Applicants must be juniors and seniors with a GPA in the top 35 percent of their class.
