Gooch awarded SoCon player of the week
Sophomore Damon Gooch was named the SoCons tennis player of the week for the first week of March. Gooch was given the award after jumping out to an 8-1 record for the Phoenix, who are currently ranked 43 in the nation. Mens tennis teams winning-streak hits three With wins against UNC-Wilmington, No. 55 Furman and UNC-Greensboro, the men are on a three-game winning-streak. The wins helped elevate the Phoenix to No. 43 in the country. Junior catcher named player of the week Softball player Debbie Zeigler was named the SoCons player of the week for the first week of March. Zeigler batted .500 [10-20], and helped lead the Phoenix to a 4-2 record over that period. The catcher posted no strikeouts in her 20 at-bats. Womens cross country team earns Academic All-American recognition With a cumulative GPA of 3.43, the womens cross country team was one of 145 teams named to the Division I All-Academic Team. The award is given by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Mens golf team finishes in middle of the pack at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate The mens golf team finished eighth out of 15 teams at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. on Tuesday. University of South Carolina-Aiken won the tournament. Elon linebacker improves draft stock at Elons Pro Day Senior Chad Nkang ran a 4.41 40-meter-dash Monday at Elons Pro Day. At the NFL combine he ran a 4.51. Nkang ran in front of a representative from the Carolina Panthers, and his recorded time will be sent out to all NFL teams. Staff: - 03/15/07
