Linebacker Chad Nkang gains local and national recognition
Elon linebacker, senior Chad Nkang was named South Region Linebacker of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year by CollegeSportsReport.com. He and wide receiver, red-shirt freshman Terrell Hudgins were also named to the first team all-region team. Men’s golf finishes strong at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic The men’s team finished third at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic in Bules N.C., which was held on March 5 and 6. Juniors Justin Newton and Jimmy Lytle finished fifth and sixth respectively and red-shirt freshman Jayson Judy finished seventh. Campbell University won the tournament. Men’s basketball senior named to Academic All-American Team Senior Chris Chalko was named to “ESPN The Magazine” Academic All-America University Division Basketball Third Team with a 3.69 grade point average. The “ESPN The Magazine” All-America team consist of 15 student-athletes from Diviosn I schools across the nation. Elon pole vaulter finishes indoor track season with strong showing Senior Jessica Clendenning finished third out of 16 in the pole vault event at the Virgina Tech Last Chance competition March 3. Clendenning cleared a height of 3.87 meters. She also won the Southern Conference on Feb. 18 when she vaulted for a school and conference record of 3.97 meters. Baseball takes weekend series, loses Tuesday After taking the weekend series against Princeton 2-1, the Phoenix lost to UNC-Wilmington Tuesday by a score of 13-2. The loss puts the Phoenix as 8-7 overall and second to last in the conference. The Phoenix will be in action again this weekend at Latham Park against the North Carolina A&T Aggies. Staff: - 03/08/07
