:: Feeling the groove at Elon
The cool cats have returned to the college scene, or at least their legendary beats have. The Elon University Jazz Ensemble keeps the classics alive by performing hits by jazz legends Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and Sammy Cahn.

Not only will the Ensemble perform big band numbers, but also a few for small groups like the Wednesday Combo and the Saxophone Quintet.

Eight of the pieces will feature big band arrangements, while a combo of saxophones, piano, guitar, bass and drums will perform two additional pieces.

The arrangements not only feature classic jazz artists, but also include others like Ann Ronell, Paul Lopez, Thad Jones, Ned Washington, Bruno Brighetti and Frank Foster.

The 80-minute show, directed by associate professor of music Jon Metzger, will also recognize drummer senior Will Phillips, baritone sax senior Julie Pope and piano and vocalist senior Eden Esters for their hard work and dedication to music.

"Come out and support the students," Metzger said. "They are playiing really, really well together. It is something people can really enjoy because it's such a fun experience."
