The University of North Carolina- Greensboro will be sponsoring the Carolina Film and Video Festival that runs from Wednesday Feb.21 to Feb.24. The festival aims to provide emerging and independent filmmakers with their first break and hopefully serve as a springboard to future success.

The festival also includes daytime workshops at the Elliott University Center Auditorium at UNC-Greensboro on Feb. 22 and 23. Those sessions are free and open to the public.

Screenings at the auditorium showcasing student and independent films from Europe, Asia and America will be shown on Thursday and Friday starting at 7 p.m. Tickets for all screenings are $5 for the general public.

The Carolina Film and Video Festival will also show feature length films daily at the Carousel Cinemas on Battleground Avenue. Tickets for the screenings at the Carousel Cinemas will be available the day of the screening, and may be purchased at the venue; prices will vary according to the time and date.

Among the notable actors in films this year include David Strathairn (“Good Night and Good Luck”), William Sadler (“The Shawshank Redemption”) and Neil Flynn (“Scrubs.”)

On Saturday evening, a night screening will also take place at the Carousel Cinemas. This screening is a special showcase for the 2007 winners of the Carolina Film and Video festival. The tickets for the winners’ screening are $10 for the general public.
