:: Pulitzer prize winner gives lecture Tuesday
McCrary Theatre will host memoirist Frank McCourt at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

McCourt taught for 30 years in the New York City Public School System, inspiring students and helping them realize their true potential.

McCourt was originally born in Brooklyn, N.Y., but grew up in Ireland. After returning to the United States years later, he earned his degree and began teaching.

After 27 years of educating the youth of New York City’s inner-city schools, McCourt decided to write, something he taught his students to do for the past threee decades.

His first book, “Angela’s Ashes,” won the Pulitzer Prize. It illustrated his underprivileged life growing up in Ireland.

McCourt eventually wrote two more books to complete a trilogy depicting his life.

The next book in the trilogy, “‘Tis,” continued from “Angela’s Ashes,” sharing his experiences as an immigrant to the United States.

His final book, “Teacher Man,” depicted his trials and tribulations through one of the most thankless jobs ever.

McCourt’s lecture will allow students to meet someone who has achieved excellence in his craft.
Tickets are still available.
