Student media is an integral part of the
Elon experience Editorial For years students have joked about the unique way of life that takes place inside the bubble. But now the idiosyncrasies, inside jokes and odd weekend activities are in writing and available on the World Wide Web. Almost 10,000 hits have been tabulated on the "You Go to Elon If" Web site. While most items on the list relate to drinking, squirrels and Greek life, others concern administration and campus media. One entry addressing The Pendulum shows that the person or persons responsible for this Web site wasted too many hours constructing the site, while overlooking alternative uses for their time. No. 16 states, "You look forward to receiving a copy of Bubble Bitching every Thursday way more than The Pendulum." If you feel The Pendulum lacks in coverage, overlooks a story or doesn’t produce a quality product, let your voice be heard. Making this broad, whiny statement No. 16 in a long list of oddball remarks doesn’t accomplish anything. Write a letter. Join the staff. Approach a staff member and make suggestions. The Pendulum is a student-produced newspaper written primarily for the student body. If you don’t like it, do something about it. Editors want to hear feedback. They want to hear your concerns and ideas. Placing this arrogant remark in a long list of supposed humorous comments and trivial statements accomplishes nothing. Since a complaint about The Pendulum ranked so high on this prestigious list, it is clear that the student body has concerns. Now, the task will be to take time away from Web site producing to contact The Pendulum with reasons why Bubble Bitching is your No. 1 source for news. |
