Administration needs to improve quality of education, stray from liberal views
Jameson Dion - Columnist

As Elon students, we are privileged. Not only do we attend a highly regarded school, but we have the opportunity to see first hand some of the world’s most important individuals speak to us on a variety of issues.

This year we have been host to many such speakers; the cultural calendar lists Cornell West, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Walter Cronkite.

Interestingly enough, our University’s list of renowned speakers have more than their popularity in common; the majority of them are liberal.

For example: We have now hosted two speakers who have been against the war on Iraq, David Halberstam and Tutu, but we have yet to hear a pro-war individual.

This is not the only case where liberal dominance has been present in public events here at Elon. On Sept.11 of last year, a service was held in Alumni Gym to honor the victims of the tragedy.

What was labeled as a memorial turned out to be a forum for members of the Elon faculty to pursue their liberal innuendoes in the face of those who perished in the terrorist attacks.

I find it offensive that part of my tuition is being used almost exclusively hire left-wing speakers as if their opinions are the only ones that matter.

Where is the conservative opinion and why is it not being represented?

While our student body is diverse, and is composed of Republicans, Democrats and all the rest, we are constantly hammered with the liberal view.

Please, challenge my views but inform me about what others think, whether you agree with their side of the story or not.

I believe that I and every other student are entitled to academic freedom, and the political agendas of certain individuals should be curbed in favor of a more balanced form of education.

As we approach a new academic year, I would like to challenge our school’s administration to implement a more balanced form of education. Use my parent’s money to educate, not indoctrinate me.
