Alpha Beta Beta Chapter of

Phi Beta Sigma

Fraternity Incorporated

Chapter History

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is a premier organization that is viewed as "a part of" the general community rather than "apart from" society. They are diverse and distinguished men that evaluate each potential member by his own merits without regard to race, nationality, or skin tone. In 1998, the organization was accepted on the Elon University campus and has not rested since their greatly anticipated arrival. On July 31, 1999, the Alpha Beta Beta Chapter was chartered on Elon's Campus.

The "Almighty" Alpha Beta Beta Chapter consistently emphasizes their fraternal principles of brotherhood, scholarship, and service and assume multiple leadership roles in extracurricular activities. Such campus involvement has reached the Student Government Association, DEEP, Intervarsity, Gospel Choir, Residence Life, BCS, Greek Life, Elon University Marching Band, and many more.

The university's football, basketball, and soccer teams have all embraced Sigma men, not only as prominent athletes but also as determined scholars. Sigma Men have also participated in numerous internships from Time Warner Cable, MetLife, Cedar Point, Nascar, Falling Creek Camp, Elon's Student Life and Admissions departments, and the Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra.

They have been recognized for countless awards and honor societies such as Order of Omega for leadership, Gamma Sigma Alpha for academic excellence, and Lambda Pi Eta for achievement within the School of Communications. They are modest Homecoming Step Show champions (2000, 2001, 2003, 2004). The local chapter also participates annually in a variety of philanthropic events.

For instance, helping facilitate March of Dimes efforts, raising awareness about cancer, and the Alpha Beta Beta Chapter was the only NPHC chapter who participated in the 2004 ELONTHON which raised over $50,000 for the Children's Miracle Network.

In the Spring of 2003, the Alpha Beta Beta chapter was offered a house by Elon University in the Greek Courts. The chapter moved into the house in the Fall of 2003 and maintained the facility until the Fall of 2007. The Alpha Beta Beta Chapter is the first NPHC Fraternity to receive housing at Elon.
