Teacher Education Scholarship
Faculty members in the teacher education program engage in scholarly
work that enhances their ability to teach, to mentor students, to engage
in discourse with a wider community of scholars, and to promote their
own intellectual development. Scholarly activities are balanced by teaching
and service.
In harmony with the Elon
Teacher-Scholar document, we define scholarship
as "... a creative process of inquiry
and exploration that adds to the knowledge or appreciation of the
discipline. It
is the serious exercise of what is being taught in the education
of students - clear goal setting, adequate preparation, intense
inquiry and critical reflection."
In addition, we in teacher
education recognize and value the collaborative nature of our profession.
This is reflected in scholarship that includes work done in conjunction
with colleagues from public schools, undergraduate and graduate
students, and colleagues from Elon as well as other institutions
and organizations.
The examples of scholarship included here are not inclusive of all faculty
scholarship in teacher education, but instead represent samples of
scholarship that involve partnerships
with the larger community.
