Conservation Status & Reasons:


In Mexico bobcats are listed as endangered because they are persecuted as sheep predators and are frequently killed by farmers. Despite their endangerment in Mexico, bobcats have the highest population among all exotic wild cats. They’re populations are most prevalent in the United States and southern Canada.






Used For:


Hunters of bobcats use them for their soft spotted fur to make rugs, shoes or ornaments.




Popularity in Captivity:


There tend to be a low amount of bobcats in captivity since they are the most populated exotic felines on Earth. Captive Bobcats can be found Carolina Tiger Rescue, North Carolina Zoo and the Conservative Center.




Threats


In Mexico, bobcats are persecuted as sheep predators and are frequently killed by farmers. They are hunted and trapped for their fur throughout most of their range. Habitat destruction and the growing human population are limiting the habitat ranges of bobcats.
