Campus Vote Intiative

As a part of Campus Compact effort to engage campuses in the 2008 election, NC Campus Compact distributed 14 mini-grants to assist member campuses with voter education, awareness, and registration. The mini-grants help fund voter marches, registration drives, panel discussions, and across the state of North Carolina. Along with the mini-grants NC Campus Compact distributed a post-election survey at this year’s Student Conference. For survey results click here.
NC Campus Compact would like to thank each campus who participated in this effort. Funds for the Voter Initiative were procured through the Puffin Foundation and through fundraising efforts of noted author and activist Paul Loeb. To see the funded initiatives click here. We would like to thank each campuses for their voter efforts.

Recommended Resources
Although the 2008 Presidential election is over, we encourage campuses to continue to promote political engagement. Below are resources to support your efforts.
University and College Specific Voter Resources:
- Campus Checklist - This is the best place to start a voter initiative on campus. It contains a great deal of ideas to get you thinking about various programs and how to attack them.
- Student Vote - an online voter registration tool for schools. You can customize it for your school, with your school colors and logo, and post it on high-traffic sites, like your main page, registration pages, and the pages people visit for athletic team schedules. It also lets you follow up with new registrants to encourage them to vote
- Campus Voter Engagement Blog
- Campus Compact's election engagement project has created a new mapping tool. It will let interested people at any given school connect with each other to help engage their campus, and help the state Campus Compacts see which campuses are already self-organizing, and which need follow-up reminders.
North Carolina Specific Resources:
- NC Civic Engagement Consortium – A UNC- Chapel Hill based Organization that works with schools, governments, and community organizations to prepare North Carolina's young people to be active, responsible citizens. Good database for lesson plans, programs, and guides for the election.
