Next Generation North Carolina (NGNC)

Task Force
In 2007, the NC Campus Compact Executive Board asked the question "Could Compact institutions come together to research and implement promising practices that foster the retention and success of first generation and minority students?" In December 2007, a group of 29 individuals from member campuses, sector offices, education and social service-related institutions formed the Next Generation North Carolina Task Force to respond to this question. This group has been asking their own questions, researching, and thinking deeply about what can be contributed to our campuses on this matter.
The NC Campus Compact’s Next Generation NC Task Force's overall goal is to provide research, resources and programs to member campuses as they work to increase retention and graduation rates of undergraduates typically underrepresented on North Carolina campuses.
- The next generation of NC students will include a significant number (an increasing number/percentage) of students who have been traditionally underrepresented in North Carolina higher education, such as those with at least one of the following characteristics:
- First generation
- Low income
- African American males
- Latino
- Native American
- Research may include analysis and aggregation of existing data, gathering of new data (through surveys, focus groups, etc.), and developing new assessment tools
- Resources may include financial, databases, expertise, model programs, a web site, and policy recommendations
- Programs may include hosting conferences, leadership institutes, and workshops for individuals (at all levels from students to presidents) engaged in North Carolina higher education
To advance this work, several teams have formed from within the Task Force. Below are the current teams and members.
