NC Campuses Make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a "Day On...Not a Day Off"
Throughout the state, NC Campus Compact members coordinated service projects in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2008. NC Campus Compact granted $300 mini-grants to nine member campuses to support their MLK Day. This was possible through a grant we received from the Points of Light Foundation. We were also able to provide MLK Challenge Tool Kits, based on the Appalachian State University model to all our member campuses.

Congratulations to NC Campus Compact Member Schools Named to the
2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll!
We want to congratulate the NC Campus Compact member campuses who were recently named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The 2007 Honor Roll was announced at the American Council on Education’s Annual Meeting in San Diego today.
The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, recognizes colleges and universities nationwide that support innovative and effective community service and service-learning programs. Honorees for the various award levels were selected based on a series of factors, including scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers service-learning courses. The Honor Roll is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and is sponsored by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, the USA Freedom Corps, and the U.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development.
In all, 528 schools were listed on the Honor Roll for their community service activities during the 2006-2007 academic year. Twenty-seven North Carolina institutions were named. Twenty-two are NC Campus Compact members.
This year a new Special Achievement Award for outstanding service by minority serving institutions was added. We are so excited that NC Campus Compact member Johnson C. Smith University was one of only two winners in the nation!
In addition, the Honor Roll recognized 127 schools as Honor Roll With Distinction members. This means they were in the top tier of applicant institutions. Seven North Carolina campuses received this designation, all of which were NC Campus Compact members. Below are the 2007 Honor Roll members from North Carolina. Again congratulations! We are so proud of you.
