NC Campus Compact VISTA

VISTAs Presenting at Student Conference

Several VISTAs will be presenting a variety of engaging workshops at the Student Conference on November 10.  Among the many workshop offerings, Jada Drew of Guilford College will discuss using the arts as a way to mentor and tutor children and adults.  Joy Messinger of UNC-Chapel Hill will help students explore their diverse leadership styles and how they perform in a team.  Jennifer Baron will share the Campus Kitchen model of reciprocity between student-client learning implemented at Wake Forest University.  Janet Jones will co-present a workshop with a student from Warren Wilson College, sharing a unique cross-cultural opportunity for an Alternative Fall Break trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.  Jennifer O’Conner of Duke University will teach students about an activity they can take back to their campuses to spark conversation about social justice issues, both globally and locally.  VISTA Leader Kristen Carter and Logan Sheehan, a second-year Campus Compact VISTA now serving at UNC-Wilmington, will participate in a panel discussion about the different national service programs students can become involved in through the Corporation for National and Community Service, including joining the NC Campus Compact VISTA team after graduation.

It is great to have so many VISTAs participating in the Student Conference this year and taking advantage of the opportunity to share their knowledge, experiences, and leadership across the Compact!

Seeking VISTA Alumni

NC Campus Compact is in the process of creating its AmeriCorps*VISTA Alumni Network.  We would like to maintain contact with alumni about their post-VISTA endeavors, as well as opportunities for them to stay connected with the Compact and other VISTAs.  It is our hope to have several of our alum attend the VISTA Recognition Banquet in June 2008.
