NOW ACCEPTING 2008-2009 VISTA APPLICATIONS!

North Carolina Campus Compact is now accepting applications for 2008-09 AmeriCorps*VISTA candidates to serve at our member host site campuses.  We anticipate approximately 30 VISTA position openings for next year! We are relying on our member contacts to spread the word around your campus and inform your graduating seniors of this exciting opportunity to be part of a national service organization as well as our state’s Compact.  We especially appreciate you encouraging any outstanding students who you believe would be excellent candidates to serve as your school’s VISTA or who would be a great candidate for one of our other member campuses.

Recruitment Dates:

We are currently accepting applications and will begin interviewing candidates in March through April.  Our goal is to fill all VISTA host site openings by early May (although we will continue to accept applications until all campus openings are filled.)  All VISTAs will begin in mid-July and serve for one year.

The AmeriCorps recruitment website has changed this year.  Below are detailed instructions on how applicants should apply (this information is also on our website.)

To apply to the NC Campus Compact VISTA program:

1. Applicants must submit an updated resume as a Word document to Kristen Carter, VISTA Leader (kcarter12@elon.edu)
2. Applicants must apply online at www.americorps.gov. To access the application:
   Go to www.americorps.gov
1. Select the “AmeriCorps VISTA” link at the top of the page
2. On the right of the VISTA page, there is a search tool – they can either select to search for programs in North Carolina, and look through the listings to find ours; OR they can click on “Advanced Opportunity Search,” and then for Program Type select “AmeriCorps*VISTA,” and type in “North Carolina Campus Compact” for the Program Name.
3. Applicants will then be able to view and apply to our VISTA program.   When they select to “Apply Now!” they will be prompted to create a My AmeriCorps account and complete the application.

Between July 1 and December 31, 2008, the 21 NC Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTAs serving at member institutions have reported the following record-breaking impact of their service:

Seeking VISTA Alumni!

NC Campus Compact is in the process of creating its AmeriCorps*VISTA Alumni Network.  We would like to maintain contact with alumni about their post-VISTA endeavors, as well as provide opportunities to stay connected with the Compact and other VISTAs, and create a forum for the exchange of professional and volunteer information.  It is our hope to have several of our alums attend the VISTA Recognition Banquet in June 2008.  NC Campus Compact VISTA Alumni can join the network by visiting our website:  www.nccampuscompact.org/VISTA and going the “VISTA Alumni” section.
