NC Campus Compact VISTA

With the school year officially in full swing, the NC Campus Compact VISTAs are actively working to engage students across their campuses.  They have been busy coordinating and participating in volunteer and service fairs, meeting with faculty to discuss service learning opportunities, collaborating with local schools to develop tutoring programs, advising and attending retreats with student leaders, developing alternative breaks, planning collaborative service projects with neighboring campuses, building relationships with community partners, and recruiting students to serve as AmeriCorps members with the NC-ACTS! program.  VISTA Leader Kristen Carter recently attended AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader training, where she had the opportunity to connect and work with Leaders from other state Campus Compact programs.

Current and Upcoming VISTA Events:

• The VISTAs attended their September Professional Retreat at Seven Lakes September 19-21. 
• VISTAs are encouraged to present a workshop at the Student Conference in November.  Workshop proposals are due October 5th.  Visit the conference website for more information and to download the workshop proposal form.  http://org.elon.edu/nccc/conference.htm 
• VISTA October professional development will be held at Elon University on October 18-19.  Workshops will focus on “Overcoming Student Apathy to Increase Volunteer Recruitment” and “Creating Enticing Marketing.”

Facilitators Sought for VISTA Professional Development

We are seeking presenters for the October VISTA professional development workshops at Elon.  “Overcoming Student Apathy to Increase Volunteer Recruitment ” will be held on October 18th, and “Creating Enticing Marketing”  on October 19 [with a two-part focus on 1) marketing programs and service opportunities on campus, and 2) developing press packets and press releases.]
