Executive Summary of Campus Compact's Annual Service Statistics Available Online
Campus Compact's executive summary of our 2008 annual community service statistics is available online at www.compact.org/about/statistics/
The report shows trends in college student civic engagement, support for faculty involvement, and campus infrastructure for community partnership and support. These are just some of the findings obtained from our annual survey of member campuses:
- On average, 31% of college students attending Campus Compact member institutions participated in community service, service-learning, and civic engagement activities. The percentage varies widely by type of institution from a high of 61% to a low of 13.
- On average, students at Campus Compact member schools participate in service-related activities 3.7 hours per week, with ranges from a high of 13.9 hours to a low of 2.9 hours depending upon the type of institution.
- 42% of member campuses reward faculty involved in community-based research or service-learning in their review processes and consideration of tenure and promotion.
- 94% of Campus Compact members have a dedicated office focused on community service, service-learning, and/or civic engagement.
Searchable Database of Service-Learning Lesson Plans and Syllabi
Learn and Serve America's National Service-Learning Clearinghouse has created a searchable database of service-learning lesson plans and syllabi. You can search by discipline or by area of service (we currently have about a dozen examples of social work syllabi). www.servicelearning.org/slice

Global Health Certificate Program
Global Health University provides online courses that are freely available to the public. We also offer high school students, college students, medical and graduate students, educators, and others, an opportunity to enroll as a Scholar and receive a Global Health Certificate from Global Health University.
Global Health University provides online enrollment in courses along with interaction with our faculty. This certificate program is designed to provide students, educators, and others, with a comprehensive understanding about successful global health and social entrepreneurship practices.
Summary of Certificate Program Objectives
- Gain a comprehensive understanding about best practices in global health and be aware that good intentions are not enough.
- Learn about the theory and practices of global health and social entrepreneurship.
- Learn about the importance of cultural competency, interpersonal communication in the health setting, metrics, and quality healthcare delivery.

Global Youth Justice Website Launches
Global Youth Justice and its new www.GlobalYouthJustice.org are leading the global expansion of quality juvenile justice programs commonly referred to as youth court, teen court, peer court, student court, youth peer jury, and youth peer panel. These peer justice and youth empowerment programs harness positive peer pressure and utilize it in a peer judgment setting for purposes of adjusting anti-social, delinquent, and criminal behavior. A record 1,255 local communities in America and increasingly around the globe are now operating these youth justice programs, which utilize volunteer youth in the sentencing process of other youth who have committed a crime, offense, and/or violation. A staggering 116,114 youthful offenders and a record 133,832 volunteers - to include both youth and adults are now involved annually in these programs. In less than two decades, these youth justice programs have already emerged as both the most replicated juvenile justice program in America and one of the leading national youth service programs engaging unprecedented and growing numbers of volunteer youth in meaningful and continual service. Publications - New Releases
"The Unheard Voices: Community Organizations and Service Learning," edited by Randy Stoecker and Elizabeth A. Tryon with Amy Hilgendorf, Temple University Press.
This book is based on the work of a student seminar using a community-based research methodology. Its design (along with one of its chapters) is informed by community organization staff. Its content is based on interviews conducted by students to understand how community organization staff think about service-learning.
