Active Global Citizenship Conference

November 17, 2008, Lock Haven University, Lock Haven, PA NEW!

The purpose of the 2008 Active Global Citizenship Conference at Lock Haven University is to empower delegates to become conscientious citizens who create sustainable relationships among and within local, regional, and global communities. Through workshops, panels, poster sessions, and discussion groups, the Active Global Citizenship Conference will provide a forum where critical approaches to understanding globalization and global citizenship are explored and debated. By facilitating the free exchange of ideas, we hope to stimulate a sense of responsibility where campuses and citizens become active political, environmental, and economic agents of change.

Students, faculty, community service/service- learning administrators, international studies/study abroad administrators, and national service members are encouraged to participate.

Topics:

Participants are invited to address any of the following topics. Human Development, Health, Trade, Peace & Conflict, Gender, Globalization, Poverty & Inequity, Social Movements, Resources and the Environment, Study Abroad, and Global Service Learning. Other topics that are relevant to the conference’s overarching theme of Active Global Citizenship are also welcome.

Participation Categories:

The conference includes a wide range of interesting and useful activities designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information. Participation categories include panels, student panels, roundtables / discussion groups, workshops and posters.

Call for Proposals: Include title and style of presentation (see above for examples), names and contact information for presenters, and a brief abstract (100 words or less) describing the session via email by October 1, 2008 to:

Call for Proposals

We are now accepting proposals from students and VISTAs to present at the Conference.  Session topics have included environmental sustainability, community service, leadership, service-learning, advocacy and activism. Community-Campus Partnerships for Health's 11th Conference

"Creating the Future We Want to Be: Transformation Through Partnerships,"

April 29-May 2, 2009, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Proposals for pre-conference workshops, story sessions, skill-building workshops, film screening and discussion session, and posters are sought that relate to one or more of these sub-themes (see the complete call for proposals for specific examples). 

(1) Journeys of Transformation - proposals that demonstrate the transformational power of community-campus partnerships. 

(2) Sustaining partnerships and the outcomes they achieve - proposals that demonstrate how partnerships and the outcomes they achieve can be sustained over time. 

(3) Building capacity - proposals that demonstrate strategies for building capacity among all partners involved in a partnership. 

(4) Community-campus partnerships as a global movement - proposals that demonstrate community-campus partnerships from across the globe. They are especially interested in sessions that are proposed and sponsored by international networks of these partnerships. 

(5) Innovative and promising partnership practices - proposals that demonstrate innovative and

promising practices in partnerships.

(6) Community-based participatory research as a tool for social justice - proposals that demonstrate community-based participatory research (CBPR) as a tool for social justice.  Proposals that use a different term to describe work that has similar meaning (e.g., action research, empowerment research, community owned and managed research) are welcome. 

(7) Interprofessional, interdisciplinary and/or intersectoral collaborations - proposals that demonstrate interprofessional, interdisciplinary and/or intersectoral collaborations. 

(8) Youth and student leadership - proposals that demonstrate the leadership roles played by youth and students in community-campus partnerships.

Call for Proposals 

Join nationally renowned speakers and practitioners from around the country for professional networking, sharing of research and dialogue on the theme of Civic Engagement at the Crossroads: Rethinking Stakeholder Roles and Responsibilities. Faculty, staff, students, community leaders, and community partners are invited to submit proposals for the 2009 Summit.
