Call for Presenters
The only national conference created specifically for campus-based literacy programs, college student tutors, program coordinators, adult learners and community partners is now accepting poster session proposals that address one of the following themes: 1) Program practice, 2) Program models, 3) Tutoring materials, 4) Research on tutoring and 5) Program evaluation (For example, writing a great tutor handbook, providing interesting activities for ESL tutors, or implementing an effective program evaluation would be appropriate topics.) The Imaginative Education Research Group and the Learning Communities Research Area (University of Canberra), invite you to participate in this discussion of imaginative education and its applications in all sites of learning, and to ensure that educational experiences are imaginatively engaging for both teachers and learners.
The conference theme "Imaginative practice, imaginative inquiry" aims to connect a cross-section of educators and administrators from elementary & high schools, universities, professional organizations and work-place settings in a dialogue and exploration of imaginative and creative ways of teaching, learning and conducting educational inquiry.
Participants are invited to submit their proposal to one of the following
tracks:
1. Evaluating imaginative learning
2. Imagination in science and/or mathematics teaching 3. Imagination in arts and/or humanities 4. Imagination across the curriculum 5. Research and theory in imaginative education 6. Unexplored territories and new frontiers

The World Conservation Congress is the premier environmental event of 2008. The first part of the Congress, the World Conservation Forum, is a great opportunity to debate pressing issues and their solutions for sustainable development.

Call for Chapters
Working Title: Teaching Tolerance and Valuing Diversity: Using Service-Learning as a Teaching Strategy. Edited by: Barbara Clinton, Ph.D., Highline Community College and Margaret Finucane, Ph.D., John Carroll University
This inter-disciplinary text will address the importance of incorporating the contemporary social issues of teaching tolerance and valuing diversity into higher education. Written in a format that is accessible to academics and to members of community-based organizations, the text will serve as a resource for all who are engaged in educating students to become active participants in our democratic society. Preference will be given to chapters that include assessment data. We strongly encourage academics to collaborate with community partners in writing their chapters.
Submission Procedure: Faculty and community-based professionals are invited to submit completed chapters (20 pages maximum) for review no later than October 1, 2007. All authors will be notified no later than January 1, 2008. At that time, authors of accepted chapters will be given an opportunity to revise their chapters. Final manuscripts will be due to the volume editors no later than Feb. 1, 2008. The volume is scheduled to be released in fall 2008.

More than 300 educators and students from across Michigan and the country will gather to share ideas and best practices and explore challenges related to the successful development and implementation of service-learning. This year’s conference will encourage participants to examine service-learning and its implications for civic engagement. Suggested topics include key issues and opportunities that strengthen service-learning and civic engagement practices.

Compact Impact: The Journal of Texas Campus Compact
Call for Submissions
Through the publication of peer-reviewed articles, Compact Impact aims to support faculty and institutions of higher education in the development of service-learning curriculum and academic endeavors that educate students for civic involvement and civic values. Compact Impact also encourages efforts to build campus and community partnerships that create service opportunities for students in support of sound educational objectives.
The editors accept for review all articles pertaining to service-learning and other pedagogies that promote civic engagement. Submissions pertaining to multiculturalism, best practices, student reflection, and community partnerships are especially encouraged. Other topics related to service-learning include affective and cognitive development, empathy, social concern, leadership, social responsibility, poverty, human rights and social justice. Submissions from all disciplines and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome. Articles jointly authored by faculty and students or faculty and community partners are also encouraged.

6th Annual Gulf-South Summit, March 13-15, 2008

Service-learning, community engagement, civic responsibility and democratic renewal are key themes for higher education, K-12, and community agencies. The Gulf South Summit on Service-Learning brings together national speakers and over 350 practitioners for dialogue on these themes and provides a forum for best practices, sharing of research, and development of a professional network of practitioners in all aspects of service-learning. Faculty, staff, students, community leaders, and community partners are invited to participate in the Summit.
The 6th annual Gulf-South Summit is now accepting proposals for individual papers and presentations, panels, interactive workshops, and posters. Deadline for submission of proposals is October 22, 2007. Please see the website for the RFP.
