Here We Grow Again!
We celebrate the addition of Davidson College which brings our number to 34 members; 32 individual campuses and 2 system offices. We welcome into our network
President Thomas W. Ross and look forward to working with our primary contact Stacey Riemer,
Associate Dean for Community Service. They join the Charlotte/Western region which is now our largest region with 16 campuses!
Deadline December 7th to Complete the Campus Compact Annual Survey
To date our state has the highest completion rate of the 31 state Compacts! This annual survey represents the most widely distributed and comprehensive survey of community service, service-learning, and civic engagement in higher education. The complete results of the survey will be available in spring 2008 and will be posted on the Campus Compact website.

Student Conference Huge Success!
With 330 in attendance representing 30 campuses, the 2007 Student Conference at East Carolina University was the largest we have ever hosted. This number includes 50 high school students from the Project Heart AmeriCorps Program at East Carolina University.
Highlights included an opening session pirate skit (playing off of the theme "The Student Citizen: Rock the Boat" and the ECU mascot) performed by the Student Advisory Board, a keynote address by David Eisner, CEO of the Corporation for Natioal and Community Service emphasizing that volunteering is not just "nice but necessary" in addressing many of the societal challenges faced today and presentation of the 2007 Community Impact Student Awards to 26 students.

Registration is now Open for the 2008 Civic Engagement Institute and Service-Learning Conference
We are now accepting registrations for the 10th Annual Service-Learning Conference on February 13, 2008 at Elon University. This is the largest conference in the region providing participants with knowledge and skills they can utilize in their service-learning work. Click here to download a registration form.
Registration is open to NC Campus Compact member campuses who plan to atttend the 2008 Civic Engagement Institute "Community Partners as Co-Educators" on February 12, 2008. The Institute will feaature Dr. Ken Reardon (Cornell University), Dr. Tania Mitchell (Stanford University) and Dr. Kathleen Rice (independent consultant) and faculty, staff and community partners from our member campuses. New Online Journal Seeking an Editor
Partnerships: A Journal of Service Learning and Civic Engagement, a new, peer-reviewed on-line journal published by the North Carolina Campus Compact, seeks an editor beginning April 1, 2008. Partnerships: A Journal of Service Learning and Civic Engagement will publish a dynamic collection of research, pragmatic studies, interviews and reviews in an on-line forum that brings together scholars, students and community leaders in the fields of service-learning and civic engagement. Study, Serve and Earn a Master's Degree in International Service
Application deadline is approaching (January 15, 2008) for the MA in International Service through the International Partnership for Service-Learning and Leadership. The program involves both academic study and volunteer service to the community for two semesters and the preparation of a thesis. For the fall semester, the student elects to study and serve in either Jamaica or Mexico. (Students choosing Mexico must demonstrate Spanish language skill; for Jamaica, English.) All students meet in a U.S. city prior to the start of the fall semester for a week of orientation. For the spring semester, all students study and serve in England and remain after the end of the semester to complete the thesis. English language proficiency is required for the entire program. The degree is granted from Roehampton University in London.

Millennials Talk Politics: A Study of College Student Civic Engagement
You can now check out CIRCLE's new special report "Millennials Talk Politics" at www.civicyouth.org/?page_id=250 (Full Report & Executive Summary). Commissioned by the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, this report is the most detailed current examination of college students’ political and civic attitudes and experiences. The study has compelling implications for higher education, national policymakers, and the news media, among others.
"Millennials Talk Politics" is based on 47 focus groups conducted by CIRCLE on 12 college and university campuses in 2006 and 2007. CIRCLE is a national research center on the civic and political engagement of young people in the U.S.
