Ohio Campus Compact - Wilmington College Service Leader Position

The Service Learning Program at Wilmington College aims to engage students, faculty and staff in responsible and challenging actions for the common good. These actions foster the development of personal values, social responsibility and a sense of caring for others.  The Service Learning Program embraces the College’s Quaker heritage and its mission to “develop in each student effective ways of knowing and learning, an awareness of the world and the value of truth and justice.”  The AmeriCorps* Service Leader VISTA will serve the Wilmington College Faculty in seeking service learning opportunities which are consistent with our mission. By maintaining a Website consisting of currently involved service learning faculty as well as their syllabi and evaluation of projects, interested faculty will learn from their peers the value behind service inclusion.  In addition to the currently involved faculty information, agencies will also be registered and highlighted on the site to better inform faculty of their needs.  This will help link the faculty and their courses with a “real” need in the community.  The Service Leader VISTA will also help foster a process for a formalized protocol for recognizing faculty involved in service learning.  By collaborating with the Office of Academic Affairs, the VISTA will establish a crucial link between the faculty and the Center for Service Learning.

The VISTA is crucial to the success of the service learning program.  By mentoring rising student leaders in the program and nourishing community agencies we enhance our service to the campus.  The VISTA will also have the opportunity to lead service trips, facilitate discussion with student leaders and faculty as well as have ample opportunity to explore his/her own goals.
