Internships Available

Campus Compact is currently seeking two graduate students who are familiar with service-learning and interested in working with the Campus Compact staff on projects related to our role as Higher Education Program Advisor to Learn and Serve America's National Service-Learning Clearinghouse.  Both interns’ primary responsibility will be reviewing service-learning syllabi.  Additional tasks may include assisting in organizing webinars; researching and writing about service-learning models and resources; and assisting in planning a pilot workshop for doctoral students to collaborate with faculty in reviewing service-learning syllabi and discussing topics related to their interests and development as engaged scholars.

Ideally one intern will work in Providence, RI, and one intern in Minneapolis, MN, though interested students in other locations are more than welcome to apply.  Specific work arrangements and hours are negotiable.  Each intern will be expected to make a commitment of at least 150 hours between April and September 2008 in exchange for a $3000 stipend.

Required qualifications include:

  • Current enrollment in a graduate program at a Campus Compact member institution (enrollment in a doctoral program is preferred);

PIRG Fellowships
Create Solutions to Better the World

If you want a job where you can work to solve problems each day, consider a job with the state Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs). The state PIRGs are a network of nonprofit groups, based in states across the country, and we tackle issues ranging from the environment to energy to health care reform and more.

The goal of a PIRG Fellowship is to help develop leaders for the public interest movement. As a PIRG Fellow, you gain hands-on experience in organizing, advocating and leading public interest campaigns in your first two years on staff. More importantly, you get real results, whether at the local, state or federal level. And your experience is complemented by intensive training and the direction and advice of a senior mentor.

As a Fellow, you are placed in a position working on global warming, clean air, consumer protection, health care, campaign reform, or another social problem. You conduct research, make the case for solutions, act as a spokesperson to the media, build diverse coalitions, write grants, and develop the kind of politically powerful support you need to win.

We have PIRG Fellowships in Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Sacramento, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Denver, CO; Hartford, CT; Washington, DC; Tallahassee, FL; Atlanta, GA; Des Moines, IA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Baltimore, MD; Portland, ME; Ann Arbor, MI; St. Louis, MO; Concord, NH; Trenton, NJ; Albuquerque, NM; Columbus, OH; Portland, OR; Philadelphia, PA; Providence, RI; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA.

Salary and Training:

Recent college graduates earn $23,750 in their first year on staff. In addition, full-time staff can opt into our state health care coverage, are eligible for paid sick and vacation days, and can apply for our college loan assistance program. Our staff accrue two weeks of vacation by the end of their first year and three weeks by the end of their second year. Staff are also eligible to join our 401(k) program in their second year.
