$500 Mini-grants for Vote Initiatives Available!

NC Campus Compact is one of seven national lead agencies in promoting the 2009 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The MLK Day of Service honors the life of Dr. King. It is also a way of reminding all Americans of their civic duty to serve, as well as helping members of the community to work together to solve common problems. The 2009 MLK Day of Service is January 19. Grants are currently available to NC Campus Compact member campuses. Click here for the Request for Proposals. NC Campus Compact is now accepting applications for the 2008 Carter Academic-Service Entrepreneurship (CASE) grants to be presented to two students (from member campuses) with the most innovative and promising ideas to use the $1000 grant to establish or significantly further a partnership between the student (and his or her school) and acommunity non-profit organization. Funding for these grants is provided by the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation. Small Grants Available for Youth Civic Education Projects The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation has provided the Civic Education Consortium with another year of funding to support the Small Grants Program; the Consortium is now seeking grant proposals from organizations working to prepare North Carolina’s young people for active, responsible citizens. The Small Grants Program provides grants of $1,000-$10,000 to fund innovative, collaborative youth civic education programs that take place in communities, schools, or government organizations. Collaborative projects, such as partnerships between schools and community organizations, other nonprofits, and/or government agencies, are strongly encouraged. Applicants must be a 501 (c) (3) or a government agency. Monthly Student Grants from the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation (JRCPF) Each month JRCPF offers a $1000 CASE grant through the ServiceBook Monthly award. Students wishing to be considered for this award can apply via www.ServiceBook.org. As with our other CASE awards, students must register, log in, then follow the links: Students > Submit Your Project. Within the application, students must be sure to select "ServiceBook Monthly" under the "CASE Competition" drop-down list. An applicant for a CASE grant must be a full-time student, propose an innovative academic service learning project, recruit a community as a partner, enlist a faculty member to oversee the project and submit an application over ServiceBook. Students who win the award keep a running account of project activities and write a summary report at the conclusion of the project. Schultz Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life on earth through support of wildlands conservation, disabled recreation and mobility, international microenterprise, and global understanding. The Foundation’s grantmaking priorities include organizations supporting outdoor adventure opportunities for the disabled in the U.S. and programs providing wheelchairs for the needy overseas. In addition, socially and environmentally responsible entrepreneurial projects in the developing world are supported. Finally, the Foundation encourages initiatives designed to promote global peace and understanding between people of different nations and ethnic backgrounds. NC Campus Compact member campuses are eligible to apply for 2008 Vote Initiative mini-grants. This initiative is intended to improve voter registration, turnout, and awareness. How you do that is up to you and your campus. Members are invited to utilize these funds to create or enhance initiatives on your campus to accomplish these goals. Previous initiatives include distribution of registration forms at freshman orientations, door-to-door voter registration in residence halls, voter kickoff events, and the creation of interactive online tools to encourage voter awareness and registration.
