6th Annual Gulf-South Summit - Award Nominations Due Soon
The 6th Annual Gulf-South Summit on Service-Learning, to be held in Nashville, TN, March 13-15, 2008, reminds you that the deadline for nominating outstanding service-learning practitioners is October 31, 2007.
Service-Learning takes creativity, endurance, commitment, hard work, and collegiality. Do you know someone whose service-learning work deserves recognition? The Gulf-South Summit presents four awards in the following areas:
- Outstanding Contributions to Service-Learning in Higher Education
- Outstanding Community Partner Contributions to Service-Learning
- Outstanding Contributions to Service-Learning Research
- Outstanding Student Contributions to Service-Learning

National Awards for Citizen Diplomacy NEW!
The U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy promotes opportunity for all Americans to be citizen diplomats and affirms the indispensable value of citizen involvement in international relations. The National Awards for Citizen Diplomacy “expands the face” of Americans by refining America’s perception of a citizen diplomat, and is an opportunity to inspire others, as well as to recognize, honor, and benchmark exemplary work in the field. Individuals, from across the nation, with top achievements and exemplary citizen diplomacy work can be nominated. Six major awards will be given at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. The 100 Best Communities for Young People 2008 -
Application Now Available
The 100 Best Communities for Young People is an annual competition that recognizes outstanding community-wide efforts that improve the well-being of youth. The deadline to apply is November 2, 2007 and applicants are encouraged to start the process early. To read the guidelines for 2008 applicants here.
Enter AARP's U@50 Challenge for a chance to win $5,000!
The "U@50" Challenge, launched by the Office of Academic Affairs at AARP, asks those in their twenties to ponder the question: Where do you see yourself by the time you turn 50? To answer the question, contestants produce a one to two minute video sharing their vision of the future. The winner will receive $5,000 with other cash prizes for the top five videos chosen.

Community College Collaboration Award NEW!
The Community College National Center for Community Engagement is accepting Collaboration Award nominations in the categories of Collaboration with Business & Industry, Collaboration with Universities, Collaboration with Social Agencies, Collaboration with K-12, and International Service Learning. The due date is January 15, 2008.
Nominate your college and be recognized for your outstanding service learning and civic engagement programs. Winners will be announced at the Community College National Center for Community Engagement's 17th annual national conference on May 21 through 23, 2008 and will be presented with their awards at the Awards Ceremony. Winners will also be invited to present on their programs during the concurrent sessions. Colleges who have won a Collaboration Award within the last 5 years are ineligible to apply. Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) Annual Award NEW!
The CCPH Annual Award recognizes exemplary partnerships between communities and higher educational institutions that build on each other's strengths to improve higher education, civic engagement, and the overall health of communities. The intent of the award is to highlight the power and potential of community-campus partnerships as a strategy for social justice. The award recognizes partnerships that are striving to achieve the systems and policy changes needed to overcome the root causes of health, social and economic inequalities. Partnerships must nominate themselves and need not be members of CCPH.
Public recognition of the award-winning partnership's achievements will be made at an award presentation ceremony at the 3rd Community-University Exposition (CUexpo) Conference, May 4-7, 2008 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
