Program Overview NC-ACTS! stands for North Carolina-Activating Citizenship Through Service! This program, sponsored by North Carolina Campus Compact, began in August 2004 and is funded through a grant from the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS). The program is designed to engage individual students on NC Campus Compact member campuses in direct service to the community while connecting them to a larger state service network.
Our goal is for NC-ACTS! members to: 1) serve as links between higher education and the communities they serve 2) develop meaningful connections with local communities as they gain a deeper understanding of complex social issues facing organizations and individuals, 3) grow and develop as civically minded and informed citizens bringing to community-based organizations their time and energy, and receiving knowledge and skills in return and, 4) take these civic engagement and service experiences with them as they move on to other professional and personal pursuits.
