Lenoir-Rhyne doesn't have a Community Service Office, so the VISTAs have served as great resources to students for those interested in volunteer work, to the faculty to help incorporate more service-learning into the classroom, and to the L-R community as a whole. They are the main liaisons between the Hickory community and Lenoir-Rhyne. They have given the school a starting point on how to configure the community service/service-learning programs here on campus.

We have an outstanding state campus compact. I once heard a prominent service-learning director say of North Carolina Campus Compact that she couldn't do her job without that organization. I agree. That organization does a fantastic job of enabling networking across the state and disseminating the most cutting edge information about civic engagement and service-learning pedagogy. The national campus compact website has served as a great resource when looking for academic support for our work. Thanks for all you do!

  • Shannon Kelly, Coordinator, Office of Service-Learning, Meredith College (December 2007)

I’m always amazed at the power of the conferences sponsored by the Compact. Each year, as we take groups of individuals to the student and faculty conferences, I’m surprised at how quick those individuals bring ideas and curriculum back to implement at our school. I’ve noticed what I call the ‘Compact Wave’ – it takes about three months after a conference for participants to implement new ideas/programs on campus. Another three months and the idea has spread to others here at the university – and the wave continues.

  • Ben Haywood, Director of Service Scholars Programs, Pfeiffer University (January 2007)

Thanks to each of you for sharing your time and energy with us here at Meredith on this past Wednesday, both at the Triangle regional meeting and the site visit that followed.

I know I speak for the faculty, staff, and students who enjoyed the privilege of meeting and interacting with you, when I say how very pleased we are to have the support from NC Campus Compact. Your commitment and dedication to community service and service-learning are without question and we are excited about the possibilities for moving our programs forward.

Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and concern.

  • Lynne Wheatley, Coordinator, Office of Volunteer Services, Meredith College (January 2007)

I was reflecting on all of the great work that NC colleges and universities have done with community service, service-learning, civic engagement, community based research, etc. over the past 7 years and I am completely blown away by what an amazing group of people I work with in this state!!  Wow!!  I am so proud to have been a part of NC Campus Compact from the very beginning.  I strongly believe that the strength of our work within the state can be attributed to NC Campus Compact.   Thanks for all that you do to make this possible!
