Keynote Address We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for the 2009 luncheon program is Jamie P. Merisotis, president and CEO of Lumina Foundation for Education.
Jamie P. Merisotis is president and chief executive officer of Lumina Foundation for Education, recognized as one of the 50 largest private foundations in America, with assets in excess of $1.3 billion. Established in 2000, Lumina Foundation for Education is a private foundation located in Indianapolis that strives to help people achieve their potential by expanding access to and success in education beyond high school. Through grants for research, innovation, communication and evaluation, as well as policy education and leadership development, Lumina Foundation addresses issues that affect access and educational attainment among all students, particularly underserved student groups such as minorities, first-generation college-goers, students from low-income families and working adults. Before joining Lumina Foundation in January of 2008, he was founding president of the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Higher Education Policy, one of the world’s premier education research and policy centers. He previously served as executive director of the National Commission on Responsibilities for Financing Postsecondary Education, a bipartisan commission appointed by the U.S. president and congressional leaders. Merisotis also assisted in the creation of the Corporation for National and Community Service (AmeriCorps), and has served on numerous national and international boards of directors, including Scholarship America, the European Access Network in London, and Bates College in Maine.
