This award is presented annually to one staff or faculty member on an NC Campus Compact member campus who has made significant contributions toward furthering the practice of service-learning. The award is presented during the NC Campus Compact Service-Learning Conference in February. The selection committee is composed of practitioners in the service-learning field who live and work outside of North Carolina. The winner is selected based on the extent to which the materials they submit demonstrate significant service-learning experience, community and student impact and institutional impact.

The 2008 award was presented on February 13, 2008 during the 10th Annual Service-Learning Conference.
