Welcome to the NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps program website.  Whether you are currently enrolled in the program, interested in becoming a member, serving as a Campus Coordinator or hosting a current member as a Site Supervisor, this website is designed to provide you with all of the resources and information you need to be successful.

Program Overview
NC-ACTS! stands for North Carolina-Activating Citizenship Through Service! This program, sponsored by North Carolina Campus Compact, began in August 2004 and is funded through a grant from the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS).  The program is designed to engage individual students on NC Campus Compact member campuses in direct service to the community while connecting them to a larger state service network.

Our goal is for NC-ACTS! members to:
1) serve as links between higher education and the communities they serve
2) develop meaningful connections with local communities as they gain a deeper understanding of complex social issues facing organizations and individuals,
3) grow and develop as civically minded and informed citizens bringing to community-based organizations their time and energy, and receiving knowledge and skills in return and,
4) take these civic engagement and service experiences with them as they move on to other professional and personal pursuits.

Students serve in partnership with schools and community-based organizations in three primary areas:

Education
Human Needs/Services
Volunteer Recruitment/Capacity Building

The organizations should meet the needs of underserved communities and populations. After completing 300 service hours in one academic year, a student is eligible for an Educational Award of $1,000 which can be applied towards outstanding student loans or the cost of attendance at a college or university.
