AUGUST
2009 EPICS Annual Conference on Service-Learning in Engineering and Computing
August 3-4, 2009, Austin, TX
The EPICS Annual Conference on Service-Learning in Engineering and Computing brings together the university community involved in integrating the educational needs for realistic design experiences with the technological needs of communities through service-learning. The conference format is designed to facilitate discussion and sharing of common experiences, best practices, assessment strategies, institutionalization successes and lessons learned that can be employed across campuses. The emphasis is on discussion and collaboration. The 2009 conference is being held in conjunction with NIWeek 2009, a premier conference and exhibition on graphical system design hosted by National Instruments. NIWeek 2009 opens August 4 for three days of interactive technical sessions, targeted summits, hands-on workshops and exhibitions on the latest developments for design, control, automation, manufacturing and test. More than 3,000 engineers, educators and scientists are expected to attend the conference to see presentations and demonstrations on how engineers and scientists can use the NI graphical system design platform to test, measure and fix inefficient products and processes to improve everyday life.

2009 Civic Engagement and Service-Learning Symposium

NC Campus Compact Student Conference

Higher Education and International Volunteer Service
November 12-13, 2009 – Washington DC
Never before has the convergence of higher education and international service been so pronounced. Volunteer organizations seek to tap into the ideas and energy of students. Students want to engage internationally to make a difference. Colleges and universities want to meet student demands responsibly, sorting through the multitude of volunteer organizations to ensure a quality experience while managing risk. Everyone seeks partnership and alliance.
Change infuses Washington as policymakers consider funding diverse service initiatives, from domestic legislation with international elements to international fellowships to initiatives promoting robust increases in resources for study abroad. Congress and the new administration consider all of these initiatives in a moment of both tremendous financial crisis and renewed hope. Partners of the Americas, the Building Bridges Coalition Campus Engagement Group, and the Brookings Initiative on International Volunteering and Service will convene colleges and universities, volunteer organizations, and policymakers to engage with policymakers and with each other to build a sum greater than its parts.

2009 Kentucky Engagement Conference
"Engaged to be Educated"

This "how to" Conference for anyeone on campus interested in communitiy and civic engagement and outreach will provide tools and ideas that educators can take back to their campus and classrooms to encourage civic learning and community engagement.
Plenary speakers are: Caryn McTighe Musil, Senior Vice President at the American Association of Colleges and Universities, Terry Hartle, Senior Vice President, Division of Government and Public Affairs at the American Council on Education, Paul Patton, former Governor of Kentucky and current Chair of CPE, and Robert King, President of CPE (Council on Postsecondary Education).
Erlanger is about a 10 minute drive from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport – about a 15 or 20 minute drive west of Cincinnati. The fee for the conference is $125.00. Stay posted for details.

The 21st Annual National Service-Learning Conference
