Dr. Lisa Keyne, Executive Director
Ph.D. in Higher and Postsecondary Education, University of Southern California
MPA, University of Alabama in Birmingham
B.A. in Education, Concordia College in St. Paul, MN 

Dr. Keyne serves as the primary administrator for the organization and the essential link to North Carolina Presidents and Chancellors and the national network. Prior to joining NC Campus Compact in October 2006, Dr. Keyne served as Vice Provost for Concordia University, Portland, OR, and as program director at Concordia University in Seward, NE, and then at Concordia University, Portland, OR, mentoring and equipping students for fulltime church work. 
    

Supporting and serving others have always been key activities in Dr. Keyne’s life, as evidenced by her six years on the board of the Servant Events Committee of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and serving as leader for a team of college students who went to China for the summer to teach English. She served for seven years as member of the faculty development team for the Concordia University System, facilitating two system-wide faculty conferences.  At Concordia in Portland she helped to coordinate civic engagement activities as part of that campus’ Portland Initiative. 

In February 2008, former Governor Mike Easley appointed Dr. Keyne to the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. In May 2008 she graduated from Leadership North Carolina, the statewide leadership program that seeks to inform, develop and engage committed leaders by broadening their understanding of and involvement in issues and opportunities facing North Carolina.

Leslie Garvin, Associate Director
MSW with a concentration in Social and Economic Development and a specialization in Management

Leslie provides leadership to the day to day activities and programs of NC Campus Compact including serving as the Program Director of the NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps program and Program Manager for the MLK Challenge. She also coordinates conferences and regional meetings and manages communications including the monthly Digest e-newsletter and the website.

Leslie came to NC Campus Compact in July 2005 from St. Louis, MO where she served as the Director of Projects and Volunteers for Faith Beyond Walls, mobilizing 1400 interfaith volunteers to complete community improvement projects throughout the St. Louis/Southern Illinois region. Prior to her volunteer management efforts, she worked in the community leadership development field where she provided training to residents in low-wealth communities as a staff member with the Coro Leadership Center – St. Louis.    

In her spare time, Leslie is actively involved in her church as a teacher, puppet team coach and member of various ministry steering teams. Jonathan Romm, Program Coordinator

M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina

B.S., Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI

Jonathan’s responsibilities include supporting and strengthening the AmeriCorps* VISTA program. He is also responsible for building and administering student initiatives including the annual Student Conference, Community Impact Student Awards, and the Student Advisory Board.

After completing his Master’s degree, Jonathan joined NC Campus Compact in July of 2008. Prior to pursuing graduate studies, Jonathan worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Vanuatu, a small island country in the southwest Pacific.  As a PCV, he taught English, assisted the Provincial Education Office in  procuring grants, and led teacher workshops. After completing his Peace Corps service, Jonathan helped found and establish an orphanage in Tamil Nadu, India.

During his spare time, Jonathan enjoys playing disc golf and basketball, spending time with his dog, eating foods from different cultures, pretending to farm, and reading.  Jonathan can be reached at jromm@elon.edu or (336) 278-7197.

Kara Brown, AmeriCorps VISTA/MLK Program Coordinator

B.S. in Psychology

Appalachian State University in Boone, NC

Kara assists in the promotion and implementation of the NC Campus Compact MLK Day of Service grant, working with colleges and universities across the U.S.

Kara, who is serving her 2nd term as an AmeriCorps VISTA, began working at NC Campus Compact in September 2008, after graduating from Appalachian State University. While attending ASU, Kara served with the Appalachian and the Community Together (ACT) program. Through ACT Kara helped to engage students in community service opportunities through the impACT team, and also served for two years as student-chair and site development coordinator of ASU’s MLK Challenge event. As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, Kara helped to found ASU’s first Relay for Life, and spent summer 2007 cycling across the country with the Hopkins 4k for Cancer to raise money for cancer research.

Outside of work, Kara loves cycling, trying to cook delicious things, traveling as much as possible, finding new music, and zumba.  Kara can be reached at kbrown37@elon.edu or (336) 278-7125.

 

Becky Morgan, Program Assistant

B.A. in English

Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC

Becky’s responsibilities include organizing and collaborating with the different campuses involved with the NC-ACTS! program as well as providing general office support and leadership in the daily operation of the office.

Becky joined the NC Campus Compact team in June 2009. During her undergraduate career at Wofford College, Becky founded a peer mentoring program for first year students. Following graduation, Becky enrolled for 10 months of service in the Public Ally program, a branch of AmeriCorps. While serving as an Ally, Becky served the community through her Event Coordinating efforts with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle based out of Raleigh, NC.
