Elon Mock Trial was founded in 2003-2004 by Elon
freshman William Warihay and Patrick Elliott. In
our first year of competition, we earned honors
at the American Mock Trial Associations Regional
Tournament for Best New School and Sprit of
AMTA, given to the team that best represents the
ideals of honesty, civility and fair play.
Since 2003, Elon Mock Trial has grown each year.
The team has become increasingly competitive and
grown in size consistently. From the
2004-2005 season until the 2007-2008 season,
Elon was consistently a hand-full of points away
from moving on to a AMTA National Tournament.
Finally, in the 2008-2009 season, Elon placed
fifth at the AMTA Chapel Hill Regional
tournament, earning a bid to the Easton Opening
Round Championship Tournament. This marked
the first time that Elon would attend a National
Tournament. At the Easton ORCS, Elon held
its own against some of the best teams in the
country, ultimately placing 11th out of 24 teams
(only a couple spots behind Harvard Mock Trial).
Elon Mock Trial continues to be coached by
founder William Warihay who is currently in his
third year of law school at Elon Law. The
team will host its third invitational tournament
this fall on the campus of Elon.
The future is bright for one of AMTA's hottest
up-and-coming mock trial programs! |
